Children living in a food-insecure household:
• Are two times more likely to have “poor or fair health.”
• Have diets that are higher in sugar and fat.
•Experience a 2/3 greater risk of developmental delays.
• Are 30% more likely to be hospitalized.
• Are more likely to experience poor mental health.
During the school year, many families rely on free and reduced meals at school to cover the food gap. This means that summer can be a difficult and scary time for children who don’t have access to enough food – but it doesn’t have to be this way.
