Energy Assistance

Help in paying heating and electric bills.

Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP)

Provides assistance for the cost of all types of heating fuel for the home. Eligibility is based on income. You may apply even if you do not have an outstanding balance.

Electric Universal Services Program (EUSP)

Provides assistance for electric bills. Eligibility is based on income. You may apply even if you do not have an outstanding balance.

Fuel Fund

Provides assistance in order to prevent cutoff of gas and electric service or to restore service if your service is off. The Fuel Fund will also pay for heating oil and other heating fuels if you do not have any fuel. Eligibility is based on income. In addition, you must have a cut-off notice or have service terminated in order to be eligible. You must also have paid on the bill during the last three months, or be able to pay a portion at application time.

Crisis Intervention Initiative (CII)

Provides assistance to BGE customers who continue to have difficulty with paying their bills after having received MEAP, EUSP and Fuel Fund Assistance. Eligibility is based on income.

Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)

Enables low-income families to permanently reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient. On average, weatherization reduces heating bills by 32% and overall energy bills by about $350 per year at current prices. If you are interested in weatherization services, please check the appropriate box on the back of the MEAP application or speak to one of our community workers.
